Medic Alert
Lions clubs worldwide, including our club, sponsor a life-saving medical identification scheme called 'Medic-Alert'. This scheme provides bracelets, neck pendants and wrist-straps which contain a disc with basic information on any serious underlying medical condition applicable to the wearer, such as diabetes or an allergy to penicillin. Personnel from the Emergency Services (ambulance, fire and police) are trained to look for this information and can obtain more details by ringing a 24-hour hotline, shown alongside the key information on the disc. There are some 4 million people worldwide using this scheme, of whom 250,000 are in the UK.
