Disctrict 105 SE Music Competition
In order to encourage talented young musicians, a Musical Interpretation prize is presented annually on the occasion of each Lion Europa Forum.
Each year the host Multiple District selects the instrument, which will be the subject of the competition.
Participants of this event must be not more than 25 years on January 1st in the year of the competition, and must have been resident in our district for at least three years prior to this date also.
Only one participant from each Lion club in our district can be nominated, and that nominee should be of at least Grade 8 standard.
During the competition, each participant is required to perform:
- An imposed piece of approx. 10 minutes duration.
- A piece of his/her own choice no more than 10 minutes in duration.
Prizes are awarded to First, Second and Third place winners, with a certificate to all those taking part.
2008 Competition
2008 saw the Frimley & Camberley Lions club nominate 19-year-old Eloisa-Fleur Thom to participate in the South East Regional competition held in Canterbury. Eloisa excelled herself and was duly adjudged the winner.
This success qualified her for the next stage in Birmingham for the final for Britain and Ireland (a total of 13 regions). The standard was extremley high, as befits a national final. Eloisa just failed to sway the judges in her favour - she ended a very creditable second and received a cash prize. She is now the first reserve to represent the country in Cannes in October.
